Oct 19, 2024, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Garrison, NY

In this one-day workshop, you will learn how to make your own willow obelisk. These versatile plant supports are great either in pots or in the ground to corral your peas, beans, clematis or any vining or climbing plant. You can choose the size you wish to make.  While this course is definitely suitable for those without any basketry experience, you will learn several different weaving techniques, so you will need focus and patience! We will also discuss plants that you can forage and how to responsibly harvest and process them, so that you can make these from wild or native plants you might have in your area.

We will work in my home studio in Garrison, NY, and you will learn the techniques for an Irish mouth wale, French randing, a 3-rod wale with spiral slewing and how to wrap your finished piece at the top. It’s a lot, but it’s very do-able and satisfying!   All materials and tools will be provided, as will lunch, along with coffee, tea and cake during the day.

Payment in full is required to reserve your spot
